Hosts Bangladesh started SAFF championship in style by thrashing last year’s semi finalist Bhutan by 4-1. Bangladesh dominated the game right from the start and put themselves in the top of the list of contenders fighting for the title.

Prantosh scored a fortunate goal early in the game and then star striker Enamul fired from close range but Bhutan cut the deficit before half time through a penalty.

However, Bhutan was completely outplayed by the hosts as they scored two more in the second half.
Right from the start Bangladesh kept their possession ahead of Bhutan and let the opponent defense do a lot of work clearing the attacks.

Bangladesh’s reward came in the 10th but with some luck. Prantosh took a weak header inside Bhutan penalty area and the Bhutan defenders completely confused the direction of the spinning ball and finally end up in the goal.

Enamul Hoque then doubled the lead in the 22nd minute. A long through ball met Enamul and he got all the time in the world to make a decision and fired the ball to the corner.

In the 33rd minute Enamul made a stunning header inside Bhutan penalty area, the ball beat the keeper completely but not the post.

Four minutes before the break Bhutan was awarded a penalty, the third penalty in the first day of the competition. Nawang took the responsibility and made no mistake to cut the deficit.
Just five minutes after the break Enamul scored his second of the night when he perfectly headed a cross into the goal.

In the 72nd minute in a perfect counter attack Bangladesh made the game beyond the Bhutanese. Jahid Hassan beat the diving keeper and sent the ball to the goal with a Bhutan defending covering the near angle.
